What is Local SEO and how can it help my business?
We get this question a lot at Revolution Interactive and I want to take a minute to talk about just one facet of Local SEO. For those businesses we work with that are in a small service area we immediately take a look or setup their Google My Business. This ensures they can begin to be found via Google Maps. Clients need to know they are “Open For Business” and this is one of the clearest ways to do that. Along with that, it also allows an easier avenue for reviews to show the great work they are doing.
The one thing many businesses don’t know is that this needs to constantly be monitored for two reasons. For their reviews, and for the fact that your listing can be edited by others. Yes, that’s correct! Someone other than yourself can make or propose changes to your listing.
Many times even though Google says they notify the owner of the listing via email of changes, those notifications are not sent until after the edit goes live. This requires the owner or manager to then go in and reverse those changes. This wastes valuable time when their information is incorrect. No one wants a client to have an incorrect phone number or address. The best way to counter these unwanted changes is with vigilance and having someone in your corner who knows what to look for. How to quickly fix the change, and be aware of many of the tricks to keep your business ranking at the top.
As a small business take some time to get familiar with what Google My Business can do for you and then give us a call to learn more about how we can help.
